So, I started to all of a sudden get all sorts of requests for custom orders, mostly for Custom ReVamped T-shirts. Well, one of my customers featured me on her blog wearing my creation! She looks SO GOOD!

Hi all! If you are going to be in Pittsburgh this weekend, check out the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh’s Artist Talk at the be galleries on Butler Street in Lawrenceville. I always find that speaking to the creators of the art shows me whole new worlds and brings a vision of depth to the artwork itself.
This artwork was made by Laura Tabakman, a Pittsburgh fiber and polymer clay artist. Entitled, Dali’s Tree, the artist printed the image on translucent fabric and layered the pieces to create a full image that changes with the wind and other environmental elements.
She says about her inspiration, ” I took the picture in Cadaquez, a fishing town in Spain where the painter Dali lived for a while. The place was so beautiful and inspiring. I could imagine Dali sitting at the same cafe where I was taking the picture, having his afternoon coffee.”

The show (and the Student Outreach show-see below) will be taken down after ths Artist Talk so go visit while you can!

I love to wear art. I love to make art-to wear. I also love to find others that use their creativity to make things for people to love on their bodies.
In one of my recent searches, I found hierapparel on etsy. Laura, the designer, creates unique, interesting, sometimes creepy, accessories, clothing and other items to wear that make me look at least twice. Check out the Yeller-Wool Felt Cape-let and the Lullop Hexagon Husk belt adornment with handmade buttons by collaborator Perishables: I want to creepy crawl around with these on while spouting Fairy Tales (why? not exactly sure, but it’s true):

Here’s what the designer has to say about her inspirations:
“My designs are inspired by my imagination and experiences, as well as the past and the past’s perception of the future. Visually, I’m drawn to exoskeletons, ancient body armor, circuitry, tribal adornments and the many intricate, often asymetrical patterns and shapes found everywhere and in everything. hier apparel is derived from hier, a greek prefix meaning sacred and stands to magnify the elemental qualities in everything and provide a response to our cultures attempts toward the seperation of humans and nature.”
Check out more of hierapparel’s work at www.myspace.com/hierapparel and at www.hierapparel.etsy.com

Ok, so I never understood the fascination with Etsy’s treasuries…until I got one. Uh oh! My life is already too full to have something else I am addicted to doing on the internet, alas, I cannot fight it.
Here is the latest and greatest Treasury from me…
http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=38478
This treasury features see-thru artworks and objects. Check out the work from my lovely, wonderful, talented boyfriend, Adam Shreckhise! He is a artist who describes himself as a post-apocalyptic creator…He uses unusual construction materials and is fascinated with plexiglas.
Here is a few other pictures of work he has for sale at www.adamshreckhise.etsy.com

Whee! Spontaneously, I checked the treasuries today and snagged one! My very first treasury! My palms were sweaty while waiting- I felt so silly, but it is true!
Here it is:

In honor, I hope to feature some of the artists in the treasury on this here blog…Keep checking back!

Whoo…glad I survived this week. I did get a chance to make a few pretty baubles this week, thank goodness. Here is a pair of vintage marbles that you can wear! Combined with handmade sterling silver sculptural ear wires and hand knitted pure silver wire, these glass marble earrings are playful and elegant. I have been envisioning them since December when I got the vintage marbles! There will be more to come…

After 6 months of planning and coordination, finally the Art Opening is upon us!
25 refugee children from the around the world, including Somalia, Myanmar, Iraq and Thailand and several Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh volunteer fiber artist (me included!) all came together and made some really terrific layered fabric art. The theme was Old Home/New Home which was explored using line, shape, fabric collage, stamping and more.
Here are the details about the opening:
Saturday April 5, 2008
6pm-9pm
Borelli-Edwards Galleries
3583 Butler Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15201
This exhibition is being held in conjunction with the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh’s membership show
Thread: From Body to Soul
Plus, the students will lead a Community Art Day April 12 at the same place. Members of the community will be taught by the students how to use some of the same materials as they used during our classes! Artwork will be attached together and displayed around Lawrenceville/Pittsburgh for the rest of the year.
Here are some photos of the MGR Foundation’s Murals students and Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh’s volunteers collaboration working.

Just in case you don’t know, Pittsburgh, PA transplants and natives reduce the name of the city to PGH pretty much all the time. On letters and return addresses, on websites… we are a lazy people…it surprised me when I first moved here, but now, after 11 years!! it is second nature.
Anyway, I am back in PGH after a short, but eventful trip to NYC ( i think we all know where that is). aaah… the hustle and bustle of that big, crazy city. Went to the mediocre Whitney Biennial and Grand Central Station which is a worthy icon of New York City.
Afterwards, we sat in Central Park and ate veggie salami and cheese we had hidden in our pockets as we had walked thru the expensive gallery…
I took photographs of the park and nearby apartment buildings thru the purple shawl I was wearing. The photographs turned out really well. I can’t wait to see what my creativity does with them in other ways…
Maybe some deconstructed silkscreening with similar imagery, or printing the image directly on to fabric… maybe collage, or altered book fodder… seems like any of them could be manifested.
Here’s some contrasting photos of a Central Park Tree- before and after the purple shawl effect.

” />NBC did a feature story about the New York City Fashion Show I sponsored. The event was located at the Women’s Project in Manhattan. It was an event that celebrated ladies of all sizes by providing an opportunity combining acceptance and great clothing and accessories.
Check out the feature here:
